Newland Hall

I don’t go to Essex very often, and I hadn’t visited Newland Hall before, a fabulous 15th century Tudor manor house near Chelmsford where Rob and Marianne were married.

Marianne and Rob sent me a nice email:

Just an email to say thanks so much for the wonderful wedding photos you took on our special day. Rob and I have looked through the shots you captured and they are exactly what we wanted; the ones of us walking through the field at sunset are especially wonderful!

Please pass on our thanks to Lucy aswell, but needless to say we are very happy with the results!

Lucy - July 29, 2011 - 12:31 pm

Stunning! I adore the shot of Marianne getting into the car, those reflections make it so ethereal, love you prep shots especially.

Claire - English Wedding blog - August 1, 2011 - 1:25 pm

This is ever so beautiful – the images are all fantastic but the penultimate one, in the field with the sunshine… enchanting.

Chris Parker - August 3, 2011 - 1:03 am

Love the reflection photo, of the bride, entering the car! Brilliant!!!

Truly Photography, London - September 29, 2011 - 11:45 am

Top 10 UK Wedding Photographer

It seems my 2011 season is off to a flying start – thanks very much to Nick Rose, who has included me in his UK Wedding Photographer Top 10 . It’s great to be in the company of Jeff Ascough and David Pullum, amongst others.

Nick mentions my site’s ‘happy vibe’, and I think I do gravitate towards the laughter and spontaneity of the day, rather than the more austere and somber feel to images that some of my contemporaries prefer. Not that I dislike their approach; I find it deeply impressive in context, especially during the ceremony. A time and a place for everything, then.

And I’m pleased you like the music, Nick!

Clare - November 23, 2011 - 5:46 pm

Just catching up on your latest work – stunning as always! We certainly sit and look at our wedding photographs from you LOTS! Well done for making it into Nick’s selection too! Cx

Anna and Michael

Despite living in Dulwich, I seem to be becoming the local Oxfordshire wedding photographer, with three in the last few months.

Anna got ready for her wedding at the fabulous Hope House Hotel, in Woodstock.

Hi David,

Just a quick note to echo M’s email yesterday. The photos really are WONDERFUL and we had such a special time on Tuesday evening going through them. I loved the music for the slideshow!

You and Lucy, as Mike said, captured so many details and most importantly the whole spirit of the day. I love that there is so much movement in so many of the photos. They are beautifully unique and we have several serious favourites. I was amazed at how discreet you were in taking the photos – I hardly noticed either of you yet on the basis of the photos taken you both seemed to be everywhere at once and right at the heart of the action at all times!  As you can imagine the day is a bit of a blur still for both of us, but your photos are helping us to see what we didn’t and are prompting memories which is fab.

Thank you also for the lovely framed picture. That is such a kind and thoughtful gesture – I was so touched – and it is already in pride of place on the mantelpiece. We will definitely be in touch regarding the albums once we are settled back into the swing of things. Coming back to work has been a bit of a shock to the system!

Once again many thanks to you both. We would not hesitate for a second to recommend you to any other clients, so please let us know if there is anything we can do on that front.

Best regards,

Anna
Hi David.

Thank you so much for all your work on the 14th, we love the photos. We are so glad you enjoyed the day so much but you two seemed to be working so hard I can’t believe you had too much fun! The results are fantastic though and exactly the sort of thing we were after. You really captured many of our friends and family in a very expressive, very real light and photos of the smaller details of the day you took look lovely to. We hardly noticed most of them at the time!

Best wishes

Mike

Lovely blend of contemporary and vintage.

Silvia Cataudo - June 10, 2011 - 9:09 pm

Absolutely lovely set of images! Really like the BW images of the dance.

Ashley Wood Farm, Wiltshire

Sarah and Graham actually only live a mile from me in Dulwich but they were married at Sarah’s family home in Wiltshire. Her Father owns a fantastic classic so there wasn’t any need to hire a wedding car. Later on at the reception we were treated to some fantastic music on the day, with an ex-Gypsy King member flown in from the South of France.

Beautiful set of wedding photos. The couple portraits are excellent!

The Lansdowne Club and St John’s Wood

To the Lansdowne again, to get the new season off to a flying start. We have a record number of photography bookings for this time of the year, so there should be lots of great wedding images to show in the coming months. Watch this space!

Some beautiful photographs here, nice lighting and composition.

A Wiltshire Winter Wedding

This is the last of my 2010 weddings that I’ll be blogging. A vintage year, I think, and the overall impression to me is that weddings are becoming increasingly varied. We’ve photographed at a humanist ceremony by a lake in West Sussex, a 1940′s themed wedding at the Cabinet War Rooms, on a boat on the River Thames, a wood in Cambridge, a seafood restaurant in Margate, as well as the more traditional churches, hotels and marquees.

Jenny and Tristram enjoyed a seriously chilly day in a lovely old village church and marquee. It was a great day for us as photographers, although nipping into the church a few seconds before Jenny entered I nearly had an equipment crisis… The vastly different interior and exterior temperatures had caused my lens to suddenly fog-up with condensation and without a quick polish the pictures of Jenny and her Father coming down the aisle would have been lost. One to remember for the future…

One of Jenny’s relatives runs an Events Co-ordination company and was responsible for the marquee and fabulous table-settings. A useful connection for a bride!

And finally…

I can’t decide if it’s my favourite picture from 2010, as there are so many to choose from! It was probably one of the trickiest to take, as nimbly skipping around a bustling dance floor trying to compensate for ever-changing disco lights does not usually a great photo make…

But it was without question my last picture of 2010.

Happy New Year!

Hi David,

There are a few images in this (Jenny and Tristram) I absolutely LOVE. The rest are demoted to just amazing!:-

1. The side on portrait of the girl, catch light in the eye, hat brim just visible – stunning

2. Your last shot of 2010 – you are going to struggle to better that in 2011. An outstanding shot.

I am photographing my first (and hopefully last – too much responsibility!) wedding this year. I shall have you and your work very much in mind as I do it.

I had the condensation problem repeatedly in the Maldives in December – very irritating – but I did get one or two shots I liked – I shall send you one for fun.

Best wishes

David

The Tythe Barn, Launton

How convenient that Launton church should have a converted tythe barn right next to it.

Here’s a few of my favourites from Daniel and Lara’s big day.

Daniel writes:

Morning David,

I’m now at work after getting back from honeymoon yesterday evening so feeling the wedding blues now! The photos are absolutely beautiful they are exactly what we wanted. I can’t thank you enough. I will take a look at the book options and let you know once Lara and I have gone through all the photos.

Thanks again and will be in touch soon.

Houston Wedding Photographer - March 16, 2011 - 3:46 am

Truly amazing wedding photography. Love the location and awesome couple! You did a super job! Thanks for sharing.

The Trafalgar, Greenwich

I think winter weddings are growing in popularity – we did five in December! I can see the attraction. Often the light is quite special, and the atmosphere can be very Christmass-y, but the amount of snow that fell this year wasn’t something we’d bargained for. By leaving a huge safety margin we managed to keep our 100% punctuality record.

Another visit to the 170 yr old institution that is The Trafalgar Tavern. More snow this time then the last time we were there, though.

Natalie sent me a smashing email:

The DVD arrived this morning, it looks so great, thank you again for all your hard work and for making our day so special.

I had such a great day and you have done a fantastic job capturing the special day for Lee and I.
