Wedding venues with a good outside space always work so well in the summer, and there was plenty of space for kids to race around and play giant chess. There was also great light in the getting-ready rooms, something of a rarity, and I’m particularly pleased with Rebecca’s veil-and-champagne picture.

This can throw-up problems with contrast for us if we don’t tweak how we photograph the day. Shooting into the sun deals with a lot of them, and also a bit of fill-flash here and then will get rid of shadows under the eyes. So cloudy days make for easier photography, but we’d still always choose a sunny one given the choice. Here’s a few favourites from the day.

Tom is a big motor racing fan, and participant, so Marieke organised a ‘drive-past’ of his Caterham car team as they emerged from the church.

Hannah and Scott were married at Cain Manor, Hampshire in glorious sunshine. It was my first time photographing a wedding there, but I hope to return soon. It’s a fantastic Elizabethan manor house with lots of creaking floors and exposed beams.

It was Princess Diana’s old school and in the room where Lindsay and her bridesmaids got ready there was lots of memorabilia and pictures from her school days.

The staircase was perfect for the confetti throwing – girls on the staircase, guys on the ground floor.

A few days after I had sent Lindsay her packages I received an email:

Thank you so much for the wonderful photos, they really have captured how we felt on the day and I can’t believe how much we laughed! 

You and Lucy were fantastic on the day, both sharing in the fun whilst being completely unobtrusive at the same time. 

We will be in touch soon about albums and prints.

They always look after us there, the food in particular is fantastic! It’s something of a shame that photography in the common areas is frowned upon – apparently the celebrity clientele were getting fed up with the paparazzi so one needs to use discretion and imagination…

Zoe and Rob made a great ‘thank you’ card out of one of our images and sent it to me:

Thank you very much for taking so many wonderful photos of our special day! We are very pleased with the results and have a photograph framed on our mantlepiece.

Grasiela is Brazilian so didn’t have any issues with the heat.
